Iraqi forces are approaching Mosul airport. They already managed to liberate the Buseef village, located in the eastern side of Mosul.

Iraqi Federal Police Chief Raed Shakir Jawdat said the artillery fire of the Iraqi Federal Police units hit ISIS positions in the vicinity of the Mosul airport in order to be able to liberate the city’s airport later. Previously the Iraq Federal Police units managed to break ISIS defense lines outside Al-Ghazlani military base, located south of Mosul.

At the same time, 9th brigade of Al-Hashd Al-Sha'abi forces managed to liberate the village of Al Sahaji which is located south of Mosul. They also managed to liberate the road that connects the eastern side of Mosul with the towns of Al Mahalabiyeh and Tal Afar.

On Monday the Iraqi Air Force jets also bombarded positions, belonging to the foreign ISIS militants in the Karabila area, located west of Al Anbar province.

Meanwhile James Mattis, the US Secretary of Defense praised the recent anti-terror efforts of the Iraqi Army, conducted against ISIS and stated that while the Iraqi Army may have lost several of its troops, it nonetheless continues to fight a very effective battle.
Mattis arrived in Baghdad on Monday and assured that it is not the purpose of US to exploit the Iraqi oil. He toured Iraq by helicopter and met with senior US military officials. He also met with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al Abadi.
