More than 50 civilians in the Syrian city of Raqqah were killed during the past 24 hours, following intense air raids, conducted by the US-led international “anti-ISIS” coalition, as well as the heavy artillery shelling of its allies, belonging to the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
Local sources said more than 60 coalition raids targeted residential areas in the central districts of Raqqah, in addition to at least 30 shells of SDF’s heavy artillery being fired today.
The sources added that SDF have made some notable gains, following intense clashes with ISIS terrorists in the neighborhoods of Hisham Ibn Abd Al Malik, Al Bareed, Nizlt Shahada and Al Rodah.
At least 30 terrorists were killed in the clashes.
A control was taken over the district of Nizlt Shahada, located between Yarmouk neighborhood and Hisham Ibn Abd Al Malik district. The latter is almost entirely under SDF control.
It is noteworthy that since 2014, the city of Raqqah is a major hub of ISIS, and often dubbed as its “capital city.”
