The Iraqi forces have managed to enter the center of the city of Tal Afar and the old castle area, after destroying ISIS fortifications, a spokesman for the Iraqi Army said on Friday.

According to the field reports, quoting various private sources, a whole bunch of ISIS terrorists withdrew from Tal Afar and fled to Ayadiyah area, while others fled taking large quantities of money with them, so they can be smuggled into Syria.

The joint coalition of Iraqi forces, consisting of the Iraqi Army, Federal Police and Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) liberated the area of Al Halabiya completely, and the commander-in-chief of the ongoing operation, Lieutenant General Abdul-Amir Rashid Yarallah said that the anti-terrorist forces also liberated the neighborhood of Al Nida, the neighbourhood of Al Jazeera, the Musheirefah district, Saad district and the Khader Elias shrine.

Reports in the Iraqi press also claim that the Iraqi Army began preemptive bombing of the village of Maresha, located west of the Al Halabiya, in preparation for the entry, noting that the Iraqi forces engaged in fierce battles at the outskirts of the neighborhoods of Saad, Al Rabiyeh, and Al Taliaa.

For its part, the Iraqi Ministry of Defense announced the killing of more than 300 ISIS terrorists in Tal Afar, as well as the liberation of about 30 areas in the city and its surroundings.

At a joint press conference with the US coalition spokesman Colonel Ryan Dillon, the Iraqi Joint Operations spokesman Yahya Rasoul said the total number of terrorists in Tal Afar is estimated at around 2,000, most of them being foreign nationals.

On Thursday, Popular Mobilization Units and the Iraqi Army liberated Al Saydin Street near the ancient fortress of Tal Afar, and discovered an ISIS tunnel northeast of Tal Afar, while also completing the cleansing of Al Nour neighborhood.

The progress achieved has naturally brought a lot of positive response from the public.

The religious authorities in the city of Najaf blessed the progress of the operation, while in turn Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Al Karbalai, during the Friday sermon, called on the Iraqi forces to spare as many civilian lives as possible, noting that ISIS terrorists frequently resort to using civilians as human shields.
