Israel is “worried” about the growing influence of Iran and Hezbollah in the Middle East.

During a cabinet session on Sunday, Mossad chief Yossi Cohen said the geopolitical shape of the region is changing and that changes are not good for Israel, given the increasing strength and growing influence of Hezbollah and Iran, especially after a nuclear deal was reached.

Cohen, however, said there are forces all over the world who are firmly supporting Israel, noting Israel will do anything in its power to prevent Iran and Hezbollah from growing bigger and becoming more influential.

The Iranian issue was reportedly on top of the agenda at the meeting, with Cohen stressing that Iran mainly achieved its growth and power due to the fact that the whole world was “distracted” by ISIS.

During the meeting, the head of Mossad also said the US is still the key player in shaping policies in the Middle East, adding that not a single opportunity shall be wasted due to Trump’s favourable stance towards Israel.

He then touched the issue of a new ceasefire agreement for southern Syria which was brokered by the United States and Russia after series of negotiations last month, pointing out Israel's demand that the agreement must include the withdrawal of Iranian and pro-Iranian forces from the area.
