Recently RT journalists published a report about Russian children in a Baghdad orphanage, and created a special email address children@rttv.ru for anyone who may have recognised these children as relatives.
Around 500 children from Russian regions are thought to be in orphanages of Iraq and Syria. The children speak Russian but those who are younger do not know their own names. As a result, a Mexican man living in Moscow, Romeo Perez, has written a letter to the organisation requesting adoption. He said that he was ready to adopt a child whose relatives could not be found - "the children did nothing wrong" he states.
In a conversation with RT, Perez said that he is a graduate student of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Moscow State University and has been living in Russia for almost six years. In two months, Romeo plans to return home to Mexico City, where his wife is waiting for him, and supports the idea of taking a foster child.
The children's identities were specifically not concealed, in the hope that they may be recognised by any living relatives.
