Kurdish-led forces advance against ISIS and come within 15km of Deir Ezzor city - Like This Article

September 9, 2017 - Fort Russ News - Paul Antonopoulos

The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have continued their drive against ISIS positions in Deir Ezzor countryside despite being bogged down in a brutal engagement with the terrorist group to capture Raqqa city.

With the Syrian Army rapidly advancing against ISIS positions in Deir Ezzor city, the US-backed SDF have decided to launch a new operation to capture as much of the province from ISIS before the Syrian Army can.

This has now put the US-backed forces within 15km from Deir Ezzor city, but it is unlikely they will reach the city anytime soon as their supply lines must be made secure.

Days ago, Fort Russ News reported that the Syrian Army were preparing bridges and boats to cross to the northern bank of the Euphrates River. Such urgency to do so rather than fully securing the south bank is most likely in an effort to liberate as much as eastern Syria as possible before the US-backed forces do so.

*Please note that the above map was made before the Syrian Army lifted the siege on Deir Ezzor airport. It however still accurately depicts advances made by the SDF.*
