Russia's permanent representative to the United Nations in Geneva, Alexey Borodavkin, said on Saturday that allegations made by United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) about the use of prohibited chemicals by the Syrian state in the northwestern town of Khan Sheikhoun earlier this year, are an example of poor counterfeiting and political recruitment.
“The part of the Commission's report on Russia and the use of chemical weapons by the Syrian army is an example of the political recruitment of counterfeiting, and moreover it is false”, Borodavkin said in a press statement.
“Moscow should not look at such accusations. Not long ago, anti-Russian tendencies in Western political and diplomatic circles were relatively common, but the situation is changing gradually. Even when the new ones are being mulled, their political price falls very quickly”, he added.
He then said that Russian-French consultations on Syria situation were held yesterday in Geneva.
During consultations with the French Deputy Chancellor of the Exchequer, President Aurelien Lechevallier, as well as officials from defense ministries of the two countries, both sides praised the military successes achieved in fighting against ISIS and other terrorists groups, and expressed satisfaction with the progress of reconciliation efforts on an internal level, especially as regards de-escalation zones, a result of long series of efforts made during negotiations in Astana and Geneva.
The Russian diplomat added that the consultations took place in a good atmosphere and showed the convergence of the Russian and French positions on many issues, especially as regards the efforts of the international community to combat terrorism and restoring security and stability in Syria.
Yesterday, Syria sent a letter to the President of the Human Rights Council Advisory Committee, assuring it has never used any sort of chemicals against its people not only because doesn’t possess any of them, but also because it considers the use of such chemicals as a moral crime that can only be condemned.
