The Russian Ministry of Defense said several infiltration attempts by terrorist groups on Syrian Army checkpoints in the countrysides of provinces of Idleb and Deir Ez Zour, ended in vain.

Spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry, Igor Konashenkov, said several infiltration attempts on Syrian Army positions by the terrorist groups ISIS and Al Nusra Front, over the past few weeks in western and eastern Syria, ended in failure, stressing that both groups suffered heavy losses.

He noted that ISIS and Al Nusra Front  attacks coincided with significant advancements of the Syrian Forces in the provinces of Idleb and Deir Ez Zour (while receiving backup support from the Russian Air Force), stressing that hundreds of the terrorists were killed.

Among those killed were 16 field commanders of different ranks and more than 400 terrorists from Russia and the CIS, in addition to destruction of 67 fortified positions, 27 tanks, 21 rocket launchers, 149 vehicles equipped with heavy machine guns, 17 booby-trapped vehicles, and 51 ammunition depots.

At the moment, the Syrian Armed Forces, with the support of the Russian Air Force, are completing an operation of besieging the terrorists in the eastern province of Deir Ez Zour so that they would not flee towards the Iraqi border. So far, more than 1,500 ISIS terrorists were eliminated.
