Hadi al-Ameri, secretary-general of Badr Organization, was quoted by Rudaw network on Thursday saying that a civil war would become "inevitable" in Iraq if Kurdish authorities proceed with the independence referendum on September 25.
He said it cannot be unavoided “if escalation continues on the same rate regarding the issue of Kurdistan Region’s referendum”.
He urged the international community to prevent Iraq from “sliding to civil war” by preventing the referendum.
Badr Organization is a major component of the Popular Mobilization Units, the Shia-led alliance of paramilitary group that has been pivotal to defeating ISIS in Iraq.
