UPDATE: Syrian Army are yet to cross the Euphrates at Deir Ezzor despite Russian claims - Like This Article

September 16, 2017 - Fort Russ News - Paul Antonopoulos

On Friday, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the Syrian Army has crossed the Euphrates River at Deir Ezzor to continue its battle against ISIS, as reported earlier by Fort Russ News.

“Now we turn to the current agenda of international relations on the development of the situation in Syria. I would like to inform you that after a major victory in Deir ez-Zor, the Syrian Government Army continues to clear ISIS terrorists in the eastern regions of the country. The suburbs of this provincial centre have been liberated. The advanced units successfully crossed the Euphrates River, reaching its eastern shore,” she said.

However this has proven to be incorrect in a rare mishap by the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Military sources in Syria have said that the Syrian Army are yet to cross the Euphrates. Without the control of Jafra and Saqr Island, it is impossible for the Syrian Army to cross the Euphrates without sustaining considerable casualties.

Meanwhile, the Syrian Democratic Forces are yet to reach the river and are currently battling through the Industrial Area of Deir Ezzor.
