After making building a border wall between the U.S. and Mexico a cornerstone issue of his 2016 presidential campaign, it appears President Donald Trump is content with addressing the wall at a later date.

Trump told reporters that the “wall would come later” before leaving for Florida to survey the devastation of Hurricane Irma. Trump also suggested that he may accept increased border security measures rather than immediate funding for the wall. Trump had agreed to support legislation keeping in place the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program without receiving guaranteed funding for the border wall in exchange.

However, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders issued a statement denying that an agreement on excluding funding for the border wall had been reached. “While the DACA and border security were both discussed, excluding the wall was certainly not agreed to,” Sanders said.

Trump seemed to back up Sanders’ statement, tweeting that no deal had been agreed to. Similarly, he tweeted that nobody wants to throw out good, educated and accomplished young people who were brought to the country at a young age by their parents; they have jobs, and some are serving in the military.

Trump had vowed on the campaign trail in 2016 that a “big, beautiful wall” would be built along the southern border between Mexico and the U.S. And while the liberal establishment and the media like to paint him a racist imbecile, it’s evident that the said wall is what many voters are expecting.
