RT rivaling major US media services on YouTube - Like This Article

RT, the Russian state-owned media service, has grown so much since its inaugeration that it is now rivaling major US-corporate media services on YouTube and other social media mediums.

RT's English-language YouTube channel has 2.1 billion views with 2.2 million subscribers, around the same figures as CNN and well-beyond Fox New's 600 million views.

If including RT's other YouTube channels, it has drawn an additional 3.3 billion views, making it one of YouTube’s most-watched news networks.

This comes as no surprise as Western corporate media on the whole has been on a decline as the globalized internet age allows information to be accessed from non-traditional sources.

It also comes as disinformation is no as tolerated as it once was, with RT providing alternative perspectives to the corporate media.

“RT’s goal is, and has always been, to inform. The hysteria surrounding such mundane activities as RT’s social-media advertising of its content—something done by practically all news organizations—speaks to the establishment’s fear of losing the monopoly on information, and betrays a concerted effort to push RT out of the US market,” RT said in an email as reported by the Wall Street Journal.
