The Iraqi Army has arrested Aymen Dawud Al Halbusi, one of the main perpetrators of the Speicher massacre that claimed the lives of more than 1,700 unarmed Iraqi Air Force cadets.

According to the field reports Al Halbusi was apprehended in the eastern countryside of the western Iraqi province of Anbar.

The massacre, which was one of the deadliest ones in modern Iraq’s history, happened on June 12th 2014, when ISIS terrorists stormed the Camp Speicher in Tikrit and killed about 1600-1700 Shia and non-Muslim cadets from the Iraqi Air Force.

At the time of the attack there were about 4,000 to 11,000 unarmed cadets in the camp.

ISIS terrorists reportedly singled out Shia and non-Muslim cadets from Sunni ones and executed them.

The Iraqi government blamed both, ISIS and members of the outlawed Baath Party of being behind the massacre.

Several people with connections to the massacre were arrested so far.

In December 2015, Finnish authorities arrested two Iraqi migrants (the 24-year old twins) that were reportedly involved in slaying the cadets.

A year later, the twins were charged with committing a war crime after they were identified in an ISIS-execution video.

In August 2017, the Iraqi authorities sentencted 27 people to death due to being involved in the massacre.
