By 2050, the population in Ukraine will be reduced by 5.5 million people. This is reported by the Institute of Demography and Social Research of Ukraine.
It is forecast that there will be 5.5 million less people of working age age (20-59 years). At the same time, the number of people aged 60 and over will increase by 2.6 million, and their share in the population will increase to 33%.
Leading researcher of the Institute, Lydia Tkachenko, believes that "rethinking the goals and instruments of politics in all spheres will help minimize the negative consequences of demographic changes."
The adoption of the National Action Plan on Aging, would be a confirmation of the understanding of the complexity of this issue and the situation of older people, it would give the opportunity give a new format to the issues at hand, including state assistance. - Tkachenko believes.
